At the October board meeting, I was elected the new President and I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I’ve been in Montavilla for four years and a Portland resident for over a decade. Professionally, I work as a researcher for Multnomah County and am an active volunteer in my spare time. Having focused my career entirely on public service, I strongly believe that collectively we have the power to make a real difference in our communities.

I am passionate about this city and believe that the benefits of living here should be accessible to all. That is why I volunteer for MFC. For too long neighborhoods in East Portland have lacked the services and amenities so abundant in other parts of the city. But instead of just lamenting this reality, those of us involved with MFC are doing something about it. The vision is to provide affordable, high quality, locally sourced food to our neighbors throughout Montavilla and surrounding areas.

As both a volunteer and a member, I am so excited with the progress we’ve made! While the organization has continually made progress since its formation, 2015 has been an especially exciting year. In one year we’ve been awarded multiple grants, doubled our membership growth, consulted with a variety of professionals including a membership coordinator, and developed a strategic plan. We’ve also seen amazing success with new events and campaigns, and watched our volunteers ranks grow in numbers and passion.

But we are not done. Both the board and our committees intend to make even more progress in 2016. In order to get to the point where we can open our doors, we’ll need to see even stronger membership growth. This is our #1 priority as an organization. We’ll also be focusing on building our volunteer capacity, including committee leadership.

As we continue to move toward opening a store, we will be reaching out to our current supporters to help us grow our membership and continue to solidify what we want our store to be. I’ll provide periodic updates on the activities of the board and committees as we move even closer to reaching our goal. I am also here to answer any questions our current or potential members have, so please feel free to reach out to me at Amanda.lamb@gmail.com.

As always, thank you all so much for your support!

Amanda Lamb
