I joined the Montavilla Food Co-op because I want a neighborhood grocery store: that REALLY supports local farmers and businesses; that truly does everything within its power to be green and sustainable; that is member-owned and governed so that customer-owners have the power to make decisions instead of having to accept whatever corporate management decides; and that really gives back to the community. I want to help shatter the myth that co-ops are only for a wealthy sub-section of the population (and that neighborhood improvement is synonomys with gentrification).
