In celebration of National Co-op Month, local volunteers have launched a campaign to support the Montavilla Food Co-op: treat yourself to ownership! They are reaching out to residents and visitors to the Montavilla neighborhood of east Portland to recruit 20 new member-owners by October 31. Every new member that joins during the month of October will receive a trio of organic chocolate bars from Equal Exchange. If 20 new members join by the end of the month, one new member will win a $50 gift card to Bipartisan Cafe. Prospective members can sign-up online or in-person at the following events:
- NW Elixirs Vintage Release Party – Friday, October 23rd @ Wix Insurance (8037 SE Stark St)
- Montavilla Farmer’s Market – Sunday, October 25st (7600 block of SE Stark St. Portland, OR)
- Howl-oween – Saturday, October 31st @ Personal Beast (8119 SE Stark St. Portland, OR)
Community members are invited to promote this campaign on Facebook.
Co-op Month has been celebrated annually across the United States for more than half a century. During the month of October, cooperative members reflect on the benefits of cooperation and educate others about the value of cooperative businesses.
The Montavilla Food Co-op seeks to establish a cooperative grocery store in the Montavilla neighborhood of east Portland. It is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors. Board meetings are open to the community. Volunteers have recruited over 400 member-owners since 2011.
