Pumpkin Seed, Hulless, Oregon
From Hummingbird Wholesale
Hummingbird has been working with Oregon farmers for many years to bring this unique crop to our area. These raw Organic Pumpkin Seeds grown in Oregon are dark green and have a fresh, slightly nutty flavor.
The majority of pumpkin seeds sold in stores around the United States are grown in China. Julie and Charlie Tilt, Owners of Hummingbird Wholesale, wanted to bring pumpkin seed production home to the Willamette Valley. Hummingbird began pumpkin seed trials in 2003 and, in 2009, Julie and Charlie traveled to Styria, Austria to research cultivation of Gleisdorfer pumpkins -a hulless variety grown in that region.
The first few years of Oregon production were challenging. Crop failure and low yields were common as we worked with local growers and processors to understand the best growing practices. Today we have 150 acres contracted and we are so proud to offer this Organic, raw, Oregon-grown seed!
Pumpkin seeds contain vitamin E along with a host of additional antioxidants. They are a very good source of phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, and copper, and a good source of other minerals including zinc and iron. Pumpkin seeds are also a good source of protein.
Ideal ways to enjoy these Oregon Organic Pumpkin Seeds: add to sautéed vegetables; sprinkle on mixed green salads; grind pumpkin seeds with olive oil, herbs and lemon for a tasty salad dressing; add chopped pumpkin seeds to your favorite hot or cold cereal; add to oatmeal raisin cookies, granola, or other baked goods; sprinkle on yogurt; roast by baking in the oven at 300 °F for 10 min, season to taste.
